Cytisus battandieri

Pineapple Broom

The Pineapple Broom is a fabulously exotic-looking, fully hardy, semi-evergreen open shrub or small tree from Morocco.

Large conical clusters of gorgeous, lemon yellow pea-shaped flowers appear from early to mid-Summer and have an amazingly rich, pineapple scent. The flowers look stunning against the silver grey foliage which has a silky sheen.

Looks great trained against a sunny wall where its Laburnum-like foliage looks particularly striking framed by brick or stonework. Prefers a sunny, well-drained, sheltered site. Height 3-4m but can be pruned to maintain a more compact size.

Prune after flowering to maintain a good bushy shape, taking care not to cut into old wood.

Generally trouble-free.

The perfect plant if you're looking for something a little unusual to wow Summer visitors to your garden.
