Campanula rotundifolia

One of our most beautiful and dainty wildflowers.

Sometimes known as 'Bluebell' in Scotland.

Delicate, violet-blue bells in loose nodding clusters on such slender stems they almost look like they're floating. With petals the colour of a summer sky and so fine they are almost translucent with the sun behind them.

Native throughout Britain though very rare in much of South West England due to a loss of fine grasslands.

Characteristic of chalk hillsides and heaths it will tolerate both alkaline and acid soils but prefers a sunny and well-drained site.

Height 15-40cm.

Hardy perennial. Will self-seed a little.
