Square-stemmed St. John's Wort

Hypericum tetrapterum

A clump-forming herbaceous perennial with attractive starry, golden yellow flowers in dense clusters up to 1m high from June - September.

A native of damp meadows, and river banks, it is happy in full sun or part shade in any reasonably moist garden soil and will tolerate boggy sites.

A herbal remedy containing the extract from this plant is used to treat mild anxiety and can be found in most health food shops.

The woody stems of this plant die right back after flowering.
